Hello!
Today marks the 6th week for me! Supposedly our baby is the size of a sweat pea right now -- but my gut looks like our baby is the size of a grapefruit. I am BLOATED. It's a very unsexy side of early pregnancy but it's reality. I am wearing my bella band at work so I can walk around with my pants unbuttoned and I spend most of my time in sweetpants at home. Loose baggy ones. =) It's a little disappointing that I can't really walk around with maternity clothes on at 6 weeks. I'll look rediculous and have to explain to everyone that I simply have a gas baby sticking out as the human baby is still neatly tucked behind my pelvic bone. As unlady like as it is to be this...eh em...gassy...**blush**...it's all a good sign that things are working normally. I'm relieved that Eric loves me and that he is trapped in this marriage thus unable to move out simply because I'm gassy. He's being very understanding to my face. =)
3 more weeks until my first OBGYN appointment. I'm REALLY looking forward to that so I can tell the world I'm pregnant. I hate keeping secrets! Besides -- I'm ready to be out with it! I want to start planning and doing and moving forward with nesting.
Here is the medical side of what is going on inside my body. Please take note of the 2nd paragraph which addresses the Pregnancy Schizophrenia I wrote about earlier! ah ha! I told you!
How your baby's growing:
This week's major developments: The nose, mouth, and ears that you'll spend so much time kissing in eight months are beginning to take shape. If you could see into your uterus, you'd find an oversize head and dark spots where your baby's eyes and nostrils are starting to form. His emerging ears are marked by small depressions on the sides of the head, and his arms and legs by protruding buds. His heart is beating about 100 to 160 times a minute — almost twice as fast as yours — and blood is beginning to course through his body. His intestines are developing, and the bud of tissue that will give rise to his lungs has appeared. His pituitary gland is forming, as are the rest of his brain, muscles, and bones. Right now, your baby is a quarter of an inch long, about the size of a lentil.
How your life's changing:
You may find yourself developing a bit of a split personality — feeling moody one day and joyful the next. Unsettling as this is (especially if you pride yourself on being in control), what you're going through is normal. Ricocheting emotions are caused partly by fluctuating hormones. But hormones aside, your life is about to change in a big way — and who wouldn't feel emotional about that?
Spotting (spots of blood on your underpants or toilet tissue after urinating) or bleeding is relatively common in early pregnancy, affecting up to a quarter of pregnant women. It may occur in a normal pregnancy, but sometimes it can be the first sign of miscarriage or an ectopic pregnancy. If you have any spotting or bleeding, call your provider.

Pregnancy Schizophrenia
Today I'm happy! Yesterday I was medium..... Monday I was very very angry. It's the classic case of Pregnancy Schizophrenia. It's hormones. It's body changes. It's feeling tired 100% of the time. It's confusing and shocking and can't be medicated. It's Pregnancy Schizophrenia. I thank the sweet lord above that this tends to go away in 2nd trimester when I'm whittled down to only one or two personalities at that point. Carrying around 5 or 6 personalities is SO HARD!
Happy Thanksgiving!

So Tired
I'm so tired I could smack someone. During week 4 I was REALLY tired but I chalked a lot of that up to coming off some of my meds. Now I'm just zonked. Over the weekend 50% of my time was spent sleeping, 25% was spent eating and another 25% was spend watching Law & Order reruns. How can I be this tired after a weekend of doing next to nothing??? How can growing something that is now the size of an apple seed take such a big toll on my body?
............and I'm cranky. I pretty much karate chop Eric in the throat every time he opens his mouth. I am totally resenting my dog. I get annoyed with everyone -- even innocent people who just walk past my desk. Basically I just want to cut off all contact with the world and hide under my bed (with the TV tuned to Law & Order) until my 2nd trimester. Has this been done before? I think this would be an excellent way to spend the 1st trimester of pregnancy.
I still like Carly for some reason though.....

We're back on!
We ARE finding out what we're having folks. By my calculations we should have our 20 week ultrasound late February. Eric wants to find out what we're having so he knows if he can "get rid of all the girl crap in the attic". Ain't he sweet?

Blood Test Results
Blood test results came back positive (yay!) and showing that I am indeed 5 weeks along. I have my first OB appointment at 9 weeks and 2 days -- or more specifically - December 16th at 1pm. I'm hoping to have my first Ultra Sound at this appointment. I will keep you posted.
Adding Another One!
After a year(+) of trying we are finally having another baby!!!
I got my positive pregnancy test on November 9th by using First Morning Urine (Best pee of all the pee you have!!!).
www.babycenter.com says that my due date is July 18th and that, as of today, I'm 5 weeks pregnant (34 or 35 more weeks to go). So because I have to schedule a C-Section this time I believe that puts my actual due date is around the 11th or 12th of July -- but I will have to confirm that. (Everything I've read says that doctors like to do scheduled C-Sections at 39 weeks and 1 day.)
I'm waiting now for my blood tests results so I can find out what my true HcG levels are. Once I know those I can make my first OBGYN appointment. I expect that appointment will be at 8-10 weeks, like last time. More updates on blood test results to follow!
Unlike last time we're really not telling people about this pregnancy until I'm in the "safe zone" -- or 12(+) weeks. I have told my closest friends and family but haven't announced it on facebook or made any sort of broad annoucements. I did tell a few more close friends last Sunday because I had a party and I wasn't drinking so they would have figured it out anyway. I've requested everyone keep it a secret until I'm ready to make it front page news. I guess that this blog will also remain pretty secret until the right time comes.
The big question we're being asked is if we're going to find out the sex of the baby this time. Initially I was telling everyone yes but last night Eric informed me that he's not entirely sure he wants to do that. So I hate to disappoint but it looks like we're on the fence! I will update you as soon as we know something. For the record - Carly wants a girl!
5 Week Update
How your baby's growing:
Deep in your uterus your embryo is growing at a furious pace. At this point, he's about the size of a sesame seed, and he looks more like a tiny tadpole than a human. He's now made up of three layers — the ectoderm, the mesoderm, and the endoderm — which will later form all of his organs and tissues.
The neural tube — from which your baby's brain, spinal cord, nerves, and backbone will sprout — is starting to develop in the top layer, called the ectoderm. This layer will also give rise to his skin, hair, nails, mammary and sweat glands, and tooth enamel.
His heart and circulatory system begin to form in the middle layer, or mesoderm. (This week, in fact, his tiny heart begins to divide into chambers and beat and pump blood.) The mesoderm will also form your baby's muscles, cartilage, bone, and subcutaneous (under skin) tissue.
The third layer, or endoderm, will house his lungs, intestines, and rudimentary urinary system, as well as his thyroid, liver, and pancreas. In the meantime, the primitive placenta and umbilical cord, which deliver nourishment and oxygen to your baby, are already on the job.
How your life's changing:
You may notice some pregnancy-related discomforts already. Many women report sore breasts, fatigue, and frequent urination starting in the early weeks. You may also have nausea, though it's more likely to show up in the coming weeks.
The outside world won't see any sign of the dramatic developments taking place inside you — except that you're turning down that glass of wine with dinner, perhaps. It's important to avoid alcohol throughout your pregnancy since no one knows exactly how much — or how little — alcohol can harm a developing baby.
You'll also want to continue or start an exercise routine. Exercise helps you develop the strength and endurance you'll need to manage the extra weight you'll be carrying. It may help prevent some of the aches and pains of pregnancy, and many women find that it's a great stress-reducer. Exercise can also help you get ready for the physical rigors of labor.
Finally, it's easier to bounce back after you give birth if you've continued some form of exercise throughout pregnancy. Choose a safe, moderately vigorous activity you enjoy. Walking and swimming are fine choices for pregnant women.
Dads, there are plenty of ways to participate in your partner's pregnancy — even this early in the game. Check out these great tips on how to get involved.
